Subterranean By Design... ---Thanksgiving--- 2003-11-27 - 9:50 p.m. You can't beat Thanksgiving, that is for sure. I spent the day at my aunt and uncle's, watching football, playing cards, and oh yeah, stuffing my face. It was fantastic to back home with my family, relaxing and catching up on everyone's lives. I saw that People magazine named Johnny Depp the sexiest man alive. Damn, I thought I had it this year. Last night I had a good time hanging out with Werner and Gilbert in Grand Haven at the Kirby Grill. We saw a lot of old MCC people and I ran into a few Hillsdale guys. It was pretty funny. I saw one of them, whose name is Bill. We have never spoken to each other, but we recognized each other as Hillsdalians, and instead of the downward head nod that guys give to strangers, we exchanged the more familiar upwards head nod, signifying that we recognized each other. One of the other guys was Pat Hornak, worst IM basketball referee ever. The man will make bad calls, and then when you complain, he will make biased calls against you the rest of the game. We have a love/hate relationship. I love to hate him, and he loves to make bad calls. He said to me "get out of my town!" but it was all in good fun. All three of those guys had gone to Grand Haven. I had a new experience of waiting in a line after we were already in the bar. It was a line to go upstairs, but it was worth it. Downstairs there was some rasta band playing and you couldn't hear a damned thing. I always wonder why bars have live bands. It's always been more annoying to me than anything. There must be some reason. Afterwards we satisfied our appetites at Mr. Kozaks. Before living in East Lansing, I would have found it absurd that a food joint be open until 3AM. Now I realize they are essential. --- Things I Have to be Thankful For A strong extended family that cares about me. TWO parents that have sacrificed my whole life to make things better for me. A brother that I've been able to talk to and learn from growing up. Four friends from high school that I still feel extremely close to. I'd do anything for these guys, and I'm sure they'd be there for me if I needed them. A strong relationship with the Lord that is unwavering, regardless of how much I may fail to hold up my end. Companionship with a woman who makes me better in every aspect of my life (and is pretty damned beautiful, to boot). The desire to attain all kinds of knowledge, and the opportunity to attend some fine schools. To live in a country that recognizes that there are certain rights that all humans have. A country that defends those rights at home and abroad. I'm thankful for all that fought and died defending our ability to enjoy those rights. Baseball, bowling league, foot rubs, the daily crossword puzzle, half off night at the Riv, Jeopardy, and the 80's. --- Song Currently on WinAmp: "Loved by the Sun" by Jon Anderson. This guy was the lead singer for Yes. The song comes from the movie Legend, starring Tom Cruise and Tim Curry. It's kind of a kids movie, but it's a romantic, heroic story. I kind of equate it with The Neverending Story. Tim Curry makes a fantastic villain.
