---TB---

2003-11-06 - 10:15 p.m.

This is the story of the tall bitch with the long hair that works at the math learning center (MLC) in Wells Hall. I still don't know the girl's name, and I've always thought of her in my own mind as the tall girl with long hair, so that's what she'll be known as. Today I found out that I don't respect her opinion, and she is now just known to me as Tall Bitch. For simplicity, let's refer to her as TB (not to be confused with TP, who I have loads of respect for, in a sense).

While working on my Numerical assigment, I came to a roadblock and went on a search for Sonali to see if she could shed some light on the subject. I found her, along with my roommate, Kevin, and TB in one of the MLC rooms. It was just the four of us in the room, and we were talking about regular stuff. Sonali left the room to look for somebody. That left me and Kevin, two pretty conservative guys, and our friend TB, of whose personality I had no idea.

So out of the blue, she says, with voice slightly raised, "Did you see what our president did yesterday?" I thought for a second and realized that she was talking about Bush signing the partial birth abortion ban. So I acknowledged her question, and TB says, in an even louder voice, something like this...

"I was SO mad. This is just the first step in eliminating abortion totally. It was a major step back for women's rights."

And that was all. I pretty much just rolled my eyes, told her I disagreed with her, and said that I didn't want to get into it. Why did I do such a thing? I think the writer of Dilbert would be able to express it best. Talking to her would be like talking to a brick wall. What I wanted to say to her was "Really? Who told you that?" It was blatantly obvious that this girl didn't do much thinking of her own on this subject. If she had, she may have said some things that were not so much of the cookie cutter nature. I feel like she got her stance from "Opinion in a Can." Yes I disagree with her on the issue, but I can certainly respect someone that I disagree with. I can also not respect one that I totally agree with. My main point here is, if you don't have your own ideas, let the person they belong to express them. They'll probably say it better.

Mmm, a pretty good day. I got some work done. Ahmet and I finished up the material from 850, but then tried to one of the problems from the previous qualifying exam and got stuck. That was disconcerting, but that's why we're studying now (test in two months, I am starting to get into my Rocky training mode). Went shopping. There is no worse smell than the room in Meijers where you return your bottles and cans. Yuck! People need to wash their shit out before they return it. I felt contaminated, and wondered if the six bucks I was getting back was worth it. Lia came over for a couple of hours... an abnormal pleasantry that is usually reserved for the weekend.

Song currently on WinAmp: "Forever Young" by Alphaville. The band is German, apparently. This is the song that is playing on the Saturn Ion commercial where they drive through the high school scene of all the kids at the prom. A nice tune.
