Subterranean By Design... ---Starlight Express--- 2003-11-24 - 1:21 a.m. Well it's been a while since I've written in the old journal. I've been a pretty busy boy, and this is the first real chance I've had to reflect on things. Thursday was study day for my exam. That's all I did, really. I studied for an exam. Towards the end of the day, my mind was kind of fried, and I started to think about the concepts of infinite, countably infinite, and trying to relate the real number line to our existence. It was pretty interesting to think about these issues from a mathematical standpoint, and I even had trouble sleeping that night because I had all sorts of thoughts running through my head. I've never really had an idea that was, to my knowledge, my own, that I found so interesting. Well I picked a bad night to become a philosopher, as I should have been focusing on other things. The exam went about as well as I had expected it to go. Friday was fantastic. I went bowling after classes were over. I wanted to work on some of the stuff I had been advised to try on Monday. My first game, I had to go spare-9 in the tenth frame just to hit 100 (on the nose, too). But my scores increased each game, and I had seven strikes in the fourth game. Too bad I had four opens, or my 188 could have been a lot higher. But I was doing this all with the new techniques, so I was quite sassified. Friday night consisted of an excellent stir-fry dinner at Lia's, followed by a trip to the Wharton Center to see Andrew Lloyd Webber's Starlight Express. Let me tell you, I LOVED this show. It was cheesy. It was eighties. The hero wins in the end. He gets the girl. Even the antagonists come around in the end and everyone is happy. Damn I hated that Red Caboose. But he was a great heel. If I see the show a couple of more times, I'm sure he'd be my favorite. I recommend this show to anyone who likes happy endings and sappy love stories. Some people make fun of this show, but I think it is stellar. They even had parts where you could wear 3-D glasses. It was so eighties I almost thought the Tigers were a good baseball team. It almost made me cry on a couple of occasions. But I feel that this was just me, and that most other people weren't as moved. Saturday I witnessed some drunk ass roommates, which was hilarious as it gets, and a serious ass-marring of Penn State by the Spartans. It was freezing outside, so we bugged after the third quarter. Lunch downtown, and then shopping at Meridian Mall. Shopping? I guess I'm becoming domesticated. I even sort of enjoyed it. Sunday, I made it to Mass for the first time in a while. I came on a good day too, as we sang "On Eagle's Wings" at Communion. That is my favorite hymn of all time, narrowly edging out "Prayer of St. Francis." Spent the first part of the afternoon at Maggy's (thank goodness for NFL sunday ticket). Since I had the test Friday, I didn't have to sacrifice my Sunday afternoon/evening to the analysis gods. It was the first time all season I've been able to enjoy Sunday football. Lions lost in their usual Sophoclean manner, but the Steelers managed to hold on and beat the Browns. Came home after that and did some homework. Short week next week gives me a reason to smile. Song Currently on WinAmp: "Aquarius / Let the Sun Shine In" by The 5th Dimension. I first fell in love with this song in eighth grade, when I would ride to play practice with Megan and Adam Ramseyer and Nina, a Swedish exchanged student. It had nothing to do with the girls, it was just that Megan always had that song playing in her car and I dug it. I used to not like the "let the sun shine in" part but now I realize that it is badass and deserves respect.
