I am the shogun of the math department! But it almost didn't turn out that way. After months of preparation, a rocky test, and a week of stewing, I was informed today that I passed my numerical analysis qualifying exam. It was not without some drama, however, as I only got 55% on a certain section. After consulting with Dr. Zhou, the department head, Dr. Chiu decided that I should pass. But a pass is a pass. After moping around for most of the week, thinking that I was toast, my prayers were answered and my spirits lifted. The turnaround from the possible failure is enormous, as now I can study for the next qual with much more diligence. I feel so happy today that I can't get the feelings out all at once. Plus, tomorrow is the weekend and I'll be partying it up old school with Jimbo in Ypsilanti. Thanks to everyone who thought about me and prayed for me. Sometimes you need all the help you can get, and I really believe that every positive thing that came my way was vital to my success. Come September I'll be ready to do it all again.
Song Currently on WinAmp: "Panama" by Van Halen. Well it's on a CD. This song pretty much defines badassness. Except that it almost killed me one day when I was on the highway. Hey, I can't help it if the breakdown section came right as business 94 was ending and I hit a 35mph curve at 75. What's a guy to do? This song also reminds me of high school buddy Mike Korpi, as he used to request this song on the band bus, and I was more than happy to oblige.
