Subterranean By Design... ---Poker Almost--- 2004-11-16 - 11:26 p.m. Well I am sort of back into playing online poker, and so far things have been good. My main vice has been the 6PM twenty dollar multi-table tournaments that run on Monday nights. While it's been a vice that I spend my evenings playing, I've finished in the money in all three. Just yesterday I had a good shot to take home the top prize of 4500 buckaroos, but I fell short. It looked bad from the onset as I was playing conservatively (hey, I went to Hillsdale College) and not getting any sweet starting hands. I had to go all in with pocket sevens in early position. I got called by the big blind and the sevens held. Then I started to get lucky. I recall flopping two pair with 6 10 and once with A 9. The second time, I checked the flop and some dolt with pocket sixes raised big. I raised him all in and took it down. My buddy Kevin also played, and caught a bad beat when he went all in with pocket queens and got two callers, essentially putting him up against ace-king. Well both an ace and a king hit, so he was out. It was too bad, but I had to keep playing. I made it into the money (110th place) and then scored a couple more pots. It was now evident that I could make a run at the final table, but had a long way to go. When it got down to rougly 30 people my cards ran dry and the blinds started to catch up to me. I held out as long as I could and went all in with A 5 and lost to Q 8. But I finished in 11th, one short of the final table, to net 172 bucks. Afterwards I was totally exhausted. It doesn't sound like a lot of work, but staring at that screen and sweating out all-ins takes a toll. I can't imagine what a real tournament would be like. I'll stick to online for now, and won't quit my day job.
