Subterranean By Design... ---The Nutcracker Suite--- 2003-12-07 - 11:02 p.m. It's been a while, but I'm back with the update. The semester is over and all that's left is finals week. Then it's study study study...oh yeah, with Christmas and New Years in there too. The weekend was a good one. I started with a little Friday afternoon bowling, which didn't go very well. Not good news for my matchup with Kathy Owens tomorrow. Friday night I went to the Holt High School teacher's Christmas party with Lia. I met a bunch of her intern friends and we danced it up to some old school tunes. I managed not to make a fool of myself, something to be said when I hit the dance floor. Afterwards we went back to one of Lia's friend's house and relaxed and talked the rest of the evening. On Saturday, we drove to Grand Blanc and, after Lia ditched me to work in the afternoon, I went to Damon's with her dad and sister. We played some trivia and watched the Spartans come back against Oklahoma, only to lose it in OT (some questionable charge calls were made). Watched some of the Army/Navy game back at the Bottinelli house (way to go, Navy!). Had a tremendous Thanksgiving II dinner, the highlight being the 18 pound turkey that Mrs. B. made. Myself, Lia, and Mrs. B. then went down to the Whiting Auditorium in Flint to see The Nutcracker Suite. It was my first time seeing the show. I enjoyed it, but the second half dragged a bit. First, the story is pretty much over at intermission. By then, the hero has won. The second half consists of the hero and heroine, and thus the audience, watching a series of cultural dances. The story is cute, and the dancers were really good, but the story left something to be desired after intermission. It was a good experience, and I think everyone should see this at least once. Sunday started off with breakfast and watching Sunday Morning. I won a game of cribbage over Lia and we went out to lunch at a mall in Flint and then spent some time at a bookstore. We headed back to East Lansing, and saw a show which one of Lia's students was performing in. It was a free show at a baptist church, and the place was packed. Afraid that it was going to be the second coming of Callin' to Me (the plot sounded exactly the same), I didn't have high expectations. I was really suprised though, as the cast (which was composed entirely of church members) did a wonderful job and the story was well constructed. The highlight of the show was the performance of "Oh, Holy Night!" After the show I pretty much went home. It was a wonderful, worry-free weekend. Something about CBS Sunday Morning. Lately they have done spots on Hillary Clinton and Al Sharpton. I haven't seen any endearing character pieces on anyone on the right lately. We'll see what transpires over the next few months. Nothing currently on WinAmp as I am watching the Falcons-Panthers game.
