---New Years Festivities---

2004-01-01 - 10:50 p.m.

Well it's been some good times over the New Year. I got to see my girl once again, and was paid a visit from some good old Hillsdalians. Now begins the stretch run for my qualifying exam, where I will establish myself as a serious contender, or a bum.

Lia came back into town on the 31st and we had a nice time getting caught up on things. We took a little walk on this trail that was posing as a park (but was pretty much a glorified bike path). It was a nice sunny day, but the fact that it was freezing cold and windy made the walk somewhat hardcore. The walk was worth it, but I think a stroll in the snow on a nice calm day would be more enjoyable. We lazed around the rest of the afternoon watching Dorf on Golf and Alice in Wonderland. Later we had dinner at La Seniorita, as we were both in the mood to split the Fajitas for Two platter. Good stuff, folks, even though some people diss the 'rita as not being authentic. After dinner we picked up some goods at Meijer and went to Holt for our New Year's parties.

The New Year's parties were a lot of fun. We started at Tera and Scott's place (Tera is an intern with Lia at Holt). We got right into the shots and then played a drinking game. It appeared that I was destined to become sloppy on this occasion, but the boozing was soon curbed when we played a game of Cranium. I swear, I'm pretty good at that game, but I'm really unlucky and I hardly ever win. Perhaps it's a conspiracy. The big moment came around, and we "Happy New Year"-ed and shortly afterwards, left for our next destination. This was the apartment of a couple of Lia's friends from Grand Blanc. It was a nice group of people here, and we stayed up talking until about 2:30 and then we went home. It's cool, band people are pretty much the same, wherever you go. So I was able to converse with this bunch with ease, and Lia was able to catch up with her old crew. Nice folks. At the end of the night I was whipped. I mst be getting old, 2:30 should be nothing!

Today I thought about going to Clarkston to watch football at Chas' house, but I had a message waiting for me from Phil, Anthony, and Jim. I was able to contact them, and they drove up to Lansing to visit. We shot the breeze at my place for a while, then headed to the Riv for a couple beers and to shoot some pool. The latter experience made me appreciate the Knights of Columbus. At the Knights, it's fifty cents for a game of pool. At the Riv or Maggy's...buck fifty! What a rip off. But I still paid to play, so I guess the price is right. They took off around 10:15 this evening. It was great to see those guys again, especially Phyllis, who was in from Texas.

Song Currently on WinAmp: Listening to a CD. The song in "Sweet Melissa" by the Allman Brothers Band. It's a pretty badass road tune. I love hearing this song when I'm cruising on the highway or some back road in warm weather, with the window down and the wind flying through the cab. It makes me feel free.
