Who's studying for quals on this blog? This guy! This last week I have had the old nose to the grindstone, trying to learn all that I can about complex analysis. Friday and Saturday consisted of two-a-day study sessions with Ahmet, the Turkish wonder. Before that, my days consisted of meeting with Ahmet in the morning and teaching a section of the Complex book, then studying that night so that I could teach another section the next day. What I've needed was something comparable to "Hearts on Fire" from Rocky IV. Things should ease up for me a little bit as he is doing the teaching duties for the other half of the exam, Real Analysis. The test is on September the 11th at 9AM. It blows that it comes a couple of weeks into the semester, but I'll take the extra fourteen days of studying. At least it's not the weekend before, and I can attend Nick and Stacey's wedding.

So the end of my summer is pretty much dedicated to studying this stuff. I think whether I pass the test or not, the studying will have been worth it. I can take the exam again in January if I fail this time, but I'd love to nail it now and have a month off in the winter. Passing this test on the first try is not as vital as it was for the last one, as I have the grace period.

What am I doing blogging when I don't have the concept of residues mastered? Back to the books!

Song Currently on WinAmp: Well I got a new laptop and decided to go fresh start on everything, and my vast WinAmp collection is no more. Too bad, as there were a lot of spotty songs on there that I might hear once in two years. But I wanted a fresh start and I got it. The CD playing right now is "Vital Idol" by Billy Idol. The song is called "Love Calling." To be a true fan of 80's music, one must listen to more than the twenty songs you'll hear the bar DJ's play.
