Subterranean By Design... ---A Night at the Bar--- 2003-11-14 - 12:40 a.m. Another Thursday, and another day closer to Thanksgiving. Tonight I spent the evening at Maggy's Bar, just across the street from my apartment complex. It was a pretty fun night. I don't spend many evenings at the bar, so it's nice when the nights I do spend there are enjoyable. It started out with me and the Big K (Kevin) heading out at 9PM. We had debated the early start to watch the Wake Forest basketball game there, but opted for the later version. We sat down and about a half hour into things, Gary, the perpetual bar fly, called and informed us he was on his way. In about five minutes, I saw Kevin give a head nod to somebody and figured it was Gary, but it turned out to be Kevin's two lady friends, along with one of their sisters and her friends. Now for any normal guy, this would be a great 2 to 1 ratio and the frenzy would be on. But for me, well, let's see... 1. I'm happily in a relationship. 2. I'm me, and I am incapable of really meeting a girl at a bar (nor does it really interest me). 3. I was, at the moment, stuffing my face with chicken wings and looked like a sloppy mess. Gary showed up soon after, along with his girlfriend, Whitney. So introductions were made and I tried to make some pleasant conversation, but the girl I ended up sitting next to didn't really seem interested in talking. She probably thought (reasonably) that I was trying to hit on her or something, and was attempting to give me the brush. It was fine with me. I was in a win-win situation. If I just try and make conversation and she seems to show interest, then I feel like the man. If she doesn't, then it's hilarious becuase I know what she's thinking that she's got the wrong idea. Of course, the latter was the case, and Kevin and I had a good laugh about it when we got back to the apartment. I wish there was a way of letting people know "I'm involved and not trying to hit on you, but sitting here and not talking is boring" without having to say it. We all had a pretty good time listening to the music the DJ was putting out. We tried to get some 80's tunes played that he didn't have, but he still played a lot of good ones. I went especially overboard when he played the Ike and Tina version of Proud Mary. I alway feel the need to dance like Tina during the fast part of the song. I guessed I missed my true calling to be a diva. --- Studying today was all right. Ahmet wasn't prepared, so I just presented and we're going to do his stuff tomorrow. Speaking of which, it's payday tomorrow. I'll be rich...er, well off...er I'll have money that I didn't have today. That's about right. I made an appointment to get my knee looked at. And, oh yeah, it snowed today! First of the season. I was enraged tonight as Jeopardy was preempted for some town meeting with the governor. I was like...sleeping. It figures that the station that decides to cover every Lansing happening, no matter how insignificant, is also the station that airs Jeopardy. Oh well, I suppose I'll survive. Song currently on WinAmp: "Raspberry Beret" by Prince. "...she walked in through the out door, out door" has to be one of the greatest lines ever. We tried to get this song played at the bar tonight, but we left before it came on. Actually, at that point the DJ had turned to ghetto booty music, so I think Prince was done for. The song will forever remind me of old neighborhood funny man Chad Leister.
