---Gearing up for the Stretch---

2003-12-01 - 2:09 a.m.

Well, it was a fantastic Thanksgiving break, but it's all over now and I've got to get back into the swing of things. Just two weeks left in the semester, and that includes exam week. I have a take home that's due on Friday, and a final to take next Thursday. It's a relatively light schedule. No better way to kick it off than with bowling tomorrow.

Lia was in town for the weekend. First thing we did was go see Tony and get my hair trimmed up. He was his usual self, cracking dirty jokes. I love that guy. Next was lunch at the Station. You know, I may have to eat those hamburgers with fork and knife, but The Station is the one place where I don't feel weird doing just that. The burgers are the tastiest anywhere (yes, Hillsdalians, they are even better than Ray's, though they cost a lot more, so I'd have to do a cost-benefit analysis to really determine which is the better burger). We watched The Matrix Reloaded so that we are now prepared to see the finale. I've heard mixed reviews, but I'm still pumped to see what happens. Dinner with the fam was good, and then a little cribbage, where mother and I snuck a couple of games past dad and Lia.

Saturday started with putting up the Christmas tree in the living room. First year of having a fake tree. It was nice not getting our hands all sappy, but there is something that is lost by having a synthetic Tannenbaum. Went to Tatra Hall to visit grandma and her card gang. I refrained from sitting down and playing, and then we went to the Lakes Mall to look around. Some jerk-off almost hit me in the parking lot because he wasn't looking where he was going, then had the nerve to give me the finger. He was just a young lad, and he looked like he was straight out of Eminem's backyard. I was kind of pissed, but more thankful that I hadn't been broadsided. I really had to gun it to avoid a collision. Punk. The mall was a good time. We ran into Jenny Charron, my next door neighbor for twenty years, and her mother and fiance. Also ran into some other acquaintences. Mass at Sacred Heart was offered for my grandpa, so the whole Ribecky clan was there. Some dude behind us was singing to his own beat. He had a decent voice, but managed to be simultaneously late and early on his entrances. It was amazing. I'm only glad that he wasn't directly behind me. After Mass, myself, Lia, mom and dad, and Nether went out to a joint called Johnny Carino's near the Lakes Mall. Good Italian eats. Rick and Sarah came over to visit for a while after that, and we checked out some photos of their wedding. I looked rather dashing in my tuxedo. Next tux job will be Labor Day weekend, when I put Ciofani through his wedding cake.

Sunday we watched CBS Sunday Morning and trekked it back to East Lansing. I toiled over analysis for the rest of the day and did some shopping. I feel ready to go for this next week. Next weekend will bring a Christmas party, a performance of the Nutcracker (sounds painful), and a turkey dinner (I know, that was supposed to be this weekend, but I'm not going to complain). I hope I can make it to that with all my wits still with me.

Adios November. Gruss Gott December. Tschussi!

Song Currently on WinAmp: "Go Your Own Way" by Fleetwood Mac. Ahhh, one of the songs that I had downloaded onto Jim's computer at Hillsdale before there was ethernet in the dorms. Jim's computer was the only one hooked up to the phone line, and we used to Napster songs at blistering rates of 3-4 kps!!! It took me a while to get hooked on the Napster craze, but it caught me, just like everyone else.
