My adventure through graduate school continues in its fourth year. This time around I am serving as the Math Department Representative on the Council of Graduate Students (COGS). Since every COGS rep. must serve on a committee, I am also a member of the East Lansing University Student Commission (USC). This Tuesday we met to discuss a proposed change to a city ordinance involving noise fines. The meeting was heavily attended by students and there were a couple of community residents and a reporter from the State News was there. I spoke a few times during the meeting and I ended up here.
The USC is kind of interesting as the City Council sends certain proposals to us where we, in turn, give our recommendation on what should be done. We can voice our approval or objections and can suggest changes. I'm not sure how much influence our recommendations will have, but I am certainly happy to be on this committee over some of the other choices. We'll see how it goes.
