Subterranean By Design... ---Adventskalender--- 2003-12-11 - 3:38 p.m. Lots to write about today. First off: Thanks much to mom and dad for the package I received in the mail a few days ago. It has brought a lot of joy into my life in the last few days. What was it? And Advent calendar, of course! Mmm, chocolate every day, and seven days to make up. Plus, finding the right door to open is half the fun. And that "24" door looks enormous. I was home for Thanksgiving and saw one sitting on our counter and thought it was for me and got pretty excited (yes, I know I'm 23). But I came to find out that it was for my cousin, Jason, and I have to admit I was a little disappointed. Thanks to the 'rents for going to extreme measures for me. Speaking of extreme measures, I had my last final exam today. Dr. Lappan can kick my butt no longer. But he made sure to get one last boot in before he sent us home for break. The exam was pretty tough, and initially I looked at the problems and couldn't solve all but one. Luckily, I had my patented Galloway beard of wisdom working, and it helped me get through a few problems. I had to rely on my patented Dallas Senters b.s. abilities to finish the rest of the test. In all, it was a fantastic class, and I feel like I learned a lot more than I learned in my attempt last year. No matter the grade, I feel good about the class. Oh, and I got a 4.0 in my numerical class, so I'm feeling upbeat about things. The Tigers have been making some news lately that is somewhat encouraging. Recently they signed second baseman Fernando Vina, formerly of the Cardinals. They are also apparently in the hunt for A's shortstop Miguel Tejada. Looks like Ilitch and Dombrowski have been reading Tigers Weekly as a source for their strategies. What can I say? After finals, I wound down with lunch at the international center and then went bowling. I never score too well when I practice, but it seems to be paying off in leagues, as I have been having some good weeks lately. Maybe I'm just getting the bad games out of the way. --- The other day, while at the Riv, I commented to Rick how the men's room there reminded me of the bathrooms at MCC, in that you had to poop for an audience. For the longest time, the men's rooms at MCC had no doors on the stalls. This meant that if you nature called, you had to do your business in front of all comers. If you got the stall closest to the wall, you were partially shielded, but still in view of anyone using the sinks. So this caused a problem. You either had to grin and bear it, or be like Finch from American Pie and wait until you got home. We recalled how uncomfortable (when inevitable) it was to choose the former. Then we speculated that we'd rather take a shower in a public bathhouse (like, one room and lots of showerheads) than have to take a dump in front of a bunch of other dudes. In fact, I don't know if it would help if they were also taking dumps or not. I just hope I'm not ever in that position. Thankfully, the administration at MCC finally came around and put one door up per restroom, but only after heavy lobbying and bugging the principal. Song Currently on WinAmp: "Wouldn't Want to Be Like You" by The Alan Parsons Project. This tune has a cool beginning, something that I am partial to. Other tunes with excellent intros: John Mellencamp's "I Need a Lover," Van Halen's "I'll Wait," and Steely Dan's "Josie." "Separate Ways" by Journey has an awesome intro as well, especially when it's live and they're kicking off the show with it.
